ok so if we’re going off of both book and movie canon, richie canonically looks up to buddy holly, right? this is because buddy holly had the huge glasses and richie had huge glasses, so he looked like buddy holly.
          ok so in the movies, he was born in 1976. this would mean his senior year is in 1994. you know what else happened in 1994? weezer released the song buddy holly. so richie definitely heard this song when he was younger and probably really related to this song a lot.
