"Bye, Mother." Riddan Lestrange said, swallowing nervously. "I have to go now." He grabbed his trunk and board the flaming red train. 'They probably won't like me.' He thought. 'Especially with my Birth-Mother and all.' He opened the door to a compartment and sat miserably, slumping in his seat. Riddan thought morbid thoughts for a little while more, finally closing his eyes after a minute or two.

"Oh! Hello! How are you- Are you okay?" A voice startled him out of his thoughts, sending him crashing to the floor and jarring his trunk. 

"I'm sorry!" The girl said to the surprised boy, holding out her hand to pick him up. "Did I startle you?"

"Um." Riddan mumbled, still a little disoriented. "Hi?"

"Hi!" The girl said excitedly. "My name is Amber Malfoy. And You are?" 

"Um. Riddan." He said, sitting down next to the already seated girl. "Riddan Lestrange." 

"Oh!" The girl said looking interested. "Are you really? I've heard about you." She peered at me with her blue eyes. "You're the boy who was put in the orphanage right?"

"Yeah." Riddan said, glad to be able to have something to say. "But I was adopted while I was still little. By Muggles.." Amber wrinkled her nose a little but still looked inquiring. "I kept my surname." 

"Muggles? My dad, Quinus Malfoy, talks about them awful lot, but  I'm going to make my own opinion on the No-Majs." She suddenly looked ecstatic. "That means you haven't had Chocolate Frogs! Or Bertie Beans! Or Cauldron Cakes!" She lowered her voice to a whisper. "Have you had Butterbear yet?" 

"No." Riddan said confused. "What's that?"

Ambers eyes shown with delight. "This is going to be so much fun."  

And as Amber filled the silence with meaning-less chatter and bumbles, Riddan looked out of the window at the country-side, all the while thinking that it might not be as bad as he thought.
