I think I’ve grown out of writing fanfics… Idk if this is relatable for anyone, but it doesn’t feel right for me anymore to write Percy Jackson fanfics. I started writing fanfics when I was 14, 5 years ago. I’m 19 now and it feels like I don’t belong here. I want to focus on real writing. I’m not saying fanfics aren’t real writing, but I myself have been relying on these excisting characters way too much. I want to make one thing very clear: this is not some insult to people who do write fanfics. I loved to do it and it helped me so much. And if you want to do it, you totally should. It just doesn’t work for me anymore. And I don’t think that the last few stories I wrote worked very well in the fanfic style. They almost got no comments nor votes, while the more classic tropes did so much better. It saddens me and I find it very scary to make this step, but it also feels good. I’m excited to not be bound anymore to these characters. For example I found it very hard lately to write about Annabeth’s abbondenment issues for the millionth time. Tbh I don’t know why I’m sharing this, but it feels weird to just dissapear. My one shots also hit the 50k, which is crazy. So I’ll do something with that too, but I do think that is the beginning of the end.

@Riptide_the_pen hi! Sorry this is so late. I just want to say I totally get this feeling. Wattpad is different from what it was for me back when I first arrived here. It shaped a huge part of me but deep down I know that the time has probably run out for me here. So I guess every three or so months I just lurk around to see how my few friends who remained here are going and then disappear again. What I mean to say is that I totally get the feeling of feeling like you kinda dont belong here anymore, or wanting to do something else i.e writing original stories. I wish you all the best with your future endevours and I hope you just have fun writing things that you love. Take care <333

Okay so lately I’ve completely switched types, I always thought I was completely into dark haired guys, but lately I’m really into blonde guys. But it’s kinda weird, because in books I’m always kind of in love with dark haired guys (like Percy). But in school and like real people, I’m lately more into blondes, but maybe it’s because the last two guys I liked were blonde… I’m just confused lol But idk, does this happen to any of you?

Would you think that if Annabeth died, Percy would eventually fall in love again? Not that he moves on, I don’t think he ever could, but more that he finds someone who he cares about, maybe even loves, makes him happy. I was always on the firm believe that Percy could never, but I reread PJO again this summer to get more in touch with canon Percy again; because after reading a lot of fanfiction and writing about the character yourself, I kind of lost him. I always try to stay as close to canon as possible, with my own story twist on it. But I don’t know, I think he perhaps could and that it would be fun writing about it. I don’t think I’d want to add it into my timeline, but more as a fun worked out head canon. What do you think?

@Riptide_the_pen I know this is like extremely late, but he would go to the Underworld, threaten Hades so he lets her go, if he doesn't he'd call Athena and start an arhument on why she should help him (he'll have many to argue with), and then threaten Hades again with the Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategie by his side. If that doesn't work he'll find away to free Annabeth's soul and bring her back to life

@Twilight_the_Cat I totally agree with you!! I don’t think he could do it, especially with his fatal flaw being loyalty and well a love like theirs isn’t easy to get over. Though Percy can be handled a lot different than how he is in canon if you look in the wrong places - like that people make him out to be stupid and arrogant - and I love long comments so I really don’t mind.

Can someone please help me? One of the first piece of advice I got about writing is that I should never use said. At least to try and avoid it, but you get what I mean. So I do that, and I think it improves writing and makes it less boring. But in “regular books”, they use “said” all the time. Like for example in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. But does someone have a reasonable explanation? Idk it was just something I noticed while reading and writing at the same time.

SpartanSB17
Don’t use said if your using present tense but if your book is written in past tense like Percy Jackson than yes use said. The only time you would use said in present tense is like “I remember what Annabeth said.” But in past you can use it like, “I love you,” I said to Annabeth.

@booksarelife84 It wasn’t too long an explanation for me!! I really like long, especially if it adds to the explanation so thank you so much!! You really helped me

Can anybody relate to the pain of writing a crucial part of your story - around the 1000 words - and then reading it again and it’s just not right, so you delete it and start over again… And then an hour of work, gone But everything to improve the story, right?

Dam, I thought I was already following you, I'll have to fix that-

Today at school really sucked. We had PE and were playing baseball, but there was no teacher supervising us. For context; I’m bad at sports, but I try my best okay? So we were playing and my position was second base, so I had to catch the ball sometimes. But it all went wrong when one of the boys said to me to tap them out, but for that I needed a ball, which I didn’t get. So another boy (the biggest asshole) shouted across the field that it was pointless to say as I didn’t understand it anyways. Everybody laughed and then the other boys started to make jokes as well, even throwing balls at me, but too high for me to even get a chance to catch it and then blame me if we lost.

Riptide_the_pen
@SpartanSB17 Exaclty, but like none of my real friends were in PE with me this year and the girls who were are all friends with the boys who bullied me. And the friend I thought I did have wasn’t a friend after all. But I hope next year is better

Geez!!! That’s not cool at all, highscool (or whatever) can be rough especially in. PE if you’re not athletic… try your best and get a group of friends who are nice (if you are a girl in PE the boys will make jokes about you being bad at it) Highschool sucks

@Aadi_Son_Of_Hades Thanks! And that’s beautifully said! But it is really fucked up right? He’s definitely not a real friend. But it’s like we both have a main friend group and he’s not in mine, but we sit together a lot, since he gets along with my friends and I with his and we have a lot of classes together. My other friends are great, one of them was also there but she’s shy and was too afraid to stand up against 15 guys - which I get. But I don’t get him. He could’ve easily said something about it

I’m so frustrated, I’m working on 6 one shots at the time and not one of them is ending And I’ve got all these new ideas I want to write too, so it’s not ending Does anybody have some advice how to focus on one thing at the time?

Riptide_the_pen
@booksarelife84 Thank you that’s great advice! I was also thinking of sitting down one half an hour a day to write to get some things done

@Riptide_the_pen Maybe sit and re read the half written chapter a few time, it helps think of new ideas... if you can't think of one, go through all of them one at a time, you will surely get at least one idea

@Trumbridge That’s true, I don’t know how a schedule would work for me, but I always write new ideas down and come back to them eventually, but I’m going to try to finish my one shots that I have written out

Does anybody know if the Music Man is any good? I truly don’t know and don’t hear anything about it. It also doesn’t really sound that interesting to me

@Riptide_the_pen OMG I LOVE MUSIC MAN!!! As a band geek who loves classic musical vibes, its just a load of fun. My theatre’s putting it on next June, so I’m SO EXCITED to audition for it :) But to answer your question, if you like older musicals and charming con artists, you’ll definitely like this one.
