@RnoomaQueen hey hey! I found this book trilogy at a nearby Headspace and I am LOVING it so far. The first book is called “Ashes” by Ilsa J Bick, I’ve only got that one and the second “Shadows” (which I’m about 3 quarters through!) and it’s truly amazing, in my opinion. The writing style is full of beautiful and vivid imagery; it’s done in a mostly professional tone; the main character is a girl who’s a survivalist; there’s awesome gore here and there and the world building is pretty great!
The premise: an EMP blips over the world, rendering all ”new-age”/current technology useless. At the same time, it kills middle-aged people, leaving survivors between teenagers, children, and older people about 50+ or 60+ years old. One more thing: these survivors are split between the Spared (the ones who remain normal), the Changed (the majority: rabid, animalistic zombie-like beings who hunger for human flesh), and those rare few who have been given a superhuman sense. Most of the Changed *Changed* when the EMP hits, but nobody knows yet who suffers the Changed or why – and that means it might not be over.
Our main character Alex finds people to care about in this new world, and desperately attempts to get them to safety.
The overarching premise is the horrors of mankind when dire circumstances require dire straits. When push comes to shove, humanity would rather betray their fellow person for a better chance of survival than unite against the odds. The worst monsters of all might just be man.
It’s a dystopian (obvi) and I definitely recommend it!
