HATESLOSINGS

"you know , maybe they should've chosen you as the symbol of the rebellion." katniss's voice was dry, devoid of any emotion, as she trailed closer towards the other girl. she tugged her brown hunting jacket closer to her body; the only part of twelve that made district thirteen almost feel like home. it was difficult here, days blurring together, only certain moments standing out. she knew it was only a matter of time until they quit letting her slack off on her schedule, until they lost patience over her frequent breakdowns and outbursts, but she found that she didn't care as much as she probably should. "you seem to have enough fire to qualify for it."

HATESLOSINGS

it wasn't that katniss disliked annalyn personally. there was no reason for her to hate anyone personally, aside from president snow and haymitch, for lying to her throughout the quarter quell. the reminder of what he had done and what the consequences were was always there, pulsing and throbbing with a vengeance with the slightest brush against the topic, just like a bruise. she sank her nails into her palms, disinterested in if she'd drawn blood - her prep team would probably just help plutarch find a way to turn any wounds into another propo. she wanted change, she wanted to make a difference within the districts, but her leading priority was simple: kill president snow. that was one person's blood on her hands that wouldn't cause her to wake up screaming every night. "we're all under pressure now, seeing as our entire population was obliterated within minutes." maybe that was too harsh. she looked up, her lips pressed together. "i'm just saying - we're all in the games now. that's all it is."

@MOCKINGSJAYS ━✧ a small chuckle nearly escaped at katniss’ last comment, but annalyn cleared her throat, bringing her loose cardigan (with only a few tears here and there) closer to herself. everything was messed up. not that it always wasn't — because it was, but this was so much worse. unless everyones banded together to stop this, to stop innocent places from being bombed, everything going on — there would truly never be peace in this world. and what example would that set to the children still growing up? those who haven't grown up too fast, anyway? (although, it seemed even they were grown already. how couldn't they be? this is the world they live in. ) there was a brief pause before annalyn finally spoke up again. “i'm really sorry. about all of this. and all of the . . . pressure being put on you. no one should've let it get to / this / point.”

katniss shrugged, picking at a loose thread on the plain grey top beneath her father's jacket. she wouldn't have minded someone else leading the cause, filming those propos and reciting those ridiculous lines everyone except haymitch kept trying to shove down her throat. she couldn't do it, didn't / want / to do it, not when it led to hospitals being bombed or president snow doing / whatever / he must have been doing to peeta. her breath hitched inaudibly at the thought, and she set her jaw, her features hardening as her gaze flickered up at annalynn. "i don't know," she said tonelessly. "i'm sure my prep team could make you look thirty, too."
