What's your opinion on fics that take place in a universe but have little to do if not nothing to do with the main series/plot? 
          	
          	Like Naruto in a different village or before the original plot? Maybe JJK in a different prefecture? Cyberpunk in Canada? I have ideas that could work out. 
          	
          	I think, when I have to follow a plot that already exists or limit myself with prefabricated characters my stories turn out poorly.

Another idea would be Avatar: The Last Airbender's universe, maybe a few cycles before Aang and our MC's, perhaps an era with Avatar we don't know?

Cyberpunk in Canada is not one of those ideas, it's only an example. I don't really think Cyberpunk is Cyberpunk without Night City. Might just be me, though.
