wanna know how my month's going ? former friend has been hunting the family i've been staying with most of their lives , nearly killed the youngest for the family blood for the purpose of necromancy , gathered a whole ass cult , made thirteen murderers and got one of their hands — from each , obviously — you should do that sometime .

REICHENFALLS

perhaps setting up a gathering to have tea with your arch enemy via code on your website while your flat mate was out on a date one evening was not considered a particularly wise idea. especially not when said arch enemy wrapped your flat mate in enough explosives to destroy the entire block a month before. but sherlock preferred to follow his own instincts above other people’s misguided perceptions of morals or thoughtful decisions. which led to this. he sat in his leather-clad chair, slender fingers plucking absently at his violin as he stared aimlessly at the tea and fragile cups spread out before him. waiting, for once. always waiting for the perfect distraction.

“i decided to give john the opportunity to write up the event and give it a frankly ridiculous title on that blog of his. which you know all about, don’t you? your comments are disappointingly easy to decipher.” sherlock narrowed his eyes, though his stomach twisted with unease over the blatant truth of moriarty’s words. he did enjoy it — the games, the risk, the danger. as long as he was the only one in danger, that is. “oh, i wouldn’t call it spoiling. i’ve been told that making tea is hardly one of my many skills. tastes a bit like flavored water.” moriarty, while not impossible to deduce, was difficult to fully understand. sherlock regarded him with narrowed eyes, knuckles whitening from his grip on his violin. “mm. don’t take it. thought that would’ve been obvious.” which was, of course, not true. two sugars. but he was naturally petty. “it isn’t as though you’re being particularly careful, either. willingly accepting a tea invitation with someone who pointed a gun at you weeks before. bit reckless, isn’t it?”

“but the most flavorful thing about all of it was that you didn’t,” moriarty pointed out, giving the male a curt look. “you like knowing that you have an enemy, sherlock. and apparently you like knowing you have one so much that you’re spoiling me with tea.” with those words, he leaned forward, scooping three sugar cubes into one of the teacups before pouring himself a cup. “would you like sugar with your tea, dearest?” he didn’t seem to mind that he was straight up flirting. that was what moriarty did best ; make sherlock either uncomfortable or, well, intrigued.

sherlock tensed. for someone who saw through everyone on an instinctual basis, sherlock was far from accustomed to people reciprocating the favor. oh, sure, there were fleeting and frankly embarrassing occasions in which mycroft would have feeble attempts, but it was always so disappointing. sherlock was careful to keep the most integral parts of himself meticulously locked away in his mind palace, most especially tedious emotions. “technically, i asked you / in / for tea. we are not going out.” ever the perfectionist. sherlock froze, fingers growing still over the strings of his violin as his gaze swept over moriarty, no longer analytical. “how very flattering that you’ve been so infatuated. i suppose that explains why my sheets reeked of coquettish cologne. i was almost worried about my landlady’s advances.” with a swift flourish, he gestured to john’s chair across from him, shooting moriarty a pointed stare. “bit of an exaggeration, seeing as i won every round of your little games. perhaps john and i did show our hand at the pool, but it wasn’t as though i wouldn’t have taken you down with us.”
