The light around her flickered faintly, no longer pearl-soft but tinged with something deeper. Not anger. Strain. “You felt it,” she murmured, voice lower than usual, her eyes lifted to him — and there was something raw in them tonight. Something frayed at the edges. She stepped closer than she normally would. Close enough that the quiet of his domain pressed against her pulse. “I do not sleep,” she said softly. “Not when vows tremble like dying stars” her fingers brushed the rim of the cup but did not lift it “and they have been trembling constantly.” A pause. Her gaze dropped briefly to his hands. “You look worse than I do,” she observed, but there was no humor in it. Only concern edged with something almost protective. “Are you carrying their unrest,” she asked, “or mine?” Her light flared faintly at that — not bright, but warm and flushed, like the sky before a storm bleeds into dusk. “If my wakefulness is bleeding into your realm,” she continued, quieter now, “tell me” hr eyes returned to his — steady, searching. “I would rather endure it alone than unravel your peace.”
