@SophieHellberg Yeah, I figured that. I read Kostova’s Historian, but I liked Descent even better.

That’s a tough one. The book is really one of a kind here. I think you’ll probably have to check traditionally published authors: Elisabeth Kostova, maybe you also like Monaldi & Sorti (but their series has a historical setting), something else you might enjoy is C.C. Humphries’ Vlad (a historical novel about Dracula), and Dan Brown, as they both have a similar style.
