Anyone on here ever try their hand at #pitmad on Twitter? Gave it a go today. It's a pitch contest to agents (along with about 10,000 other aspiring authors.)
Here's how it works for those who aren't already familiar: you take the entire concept of your novel and cram it into less than a 140 character hook. Plus, you have to add tags for the #pitmad contest and the genre (i.e. Mystery, Adult, Young Adult, etc).
If it catches the eye of the literary agents on the thread, they'll "heart" your tweet and you then email them your full query letter along with 10-20 pages of your manuscript.
The entire event lasts for 10 hours and you are limited to 3 different pitches throughout the whole day. It is exciting and exhausting all in one.
It ends in a few minutes and so far I've gotten two "hearts" which is really great as this is the first time I've ever participated.
These are the pitches I used:
Wife goes missing 3 days after moving to 1901 abandoned Victorian mansion. Husband fears neighbors are behind disappearance #Pitmad #M #A
Don't tell the truth, the townspeople say or the new neighbors wont stay. Look inside the empty room, secrets will come out soon #PitMad #NA
When is an empty room a mystery? When it's the only room that can explain where Elizabeth went and if she's still alive. #pitmad #NA #RS
