Those idiots had been pranking me for the past 10 days. Their whole plan was to act like they were ignoring me, make me feel like my birthday didn’t matter, and pretend that only my other friend — whose birthday falls on the same day — was special.

One of my friends was fully in character, saying hurtful things on purpose, while secretly everyone else was decorating my room. I couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t leave my side. She even came with me to the washroom so I wouldn’t accidentally see the surprise.

Around 11:30, I went out to throw the garbage. The moment I opened the room gate, they were right there — standing in front of my room, walking toward it with a cake and gifts in their hands. They clearly saw me too.

For a second, I just froze. Then I took two steps back, sat down on the floor, and started crying like a baby.

My best friend immediately came to me, hugged me, and said,
ā€œDo you really think we wouldn’t celebrate your birthday? Yes, Somya is special, but nothing can change the fact that you are the most important person in our lives. We’ve been planning this for almost a month.ā€

          	Then she added, laughing,
ā€œBut idiot, you almost ruined our surprise!ā€

She sent me back to her room so they could fix everything again. And from there, I heard the others yelling at her,
ā€œYour only job was to not let her leave the room! How did you mess that up?!ā€

Meanwhile, I was sitting there crying, laughing, and feeling so loved at the same time

I really can’t even blame my friends. When my best friend jokingly said that we could celebrate our birthdays together, she replied, ā€œI’m sorry Sasmita, but my birthday celebration is something I can’t share with others. And as students, I don’t think we have the time and money to invest in two birthday celebrations at once.ā€

And I understand that. Truly. Everyone has their own expectations, their own dreams for their special day. I respect that. That’s why I didn’t argue or insist. But somewhere inside, I just felt… small. Like my birthday automatically became the one that could be adjusted, merged, or quietly skipped.

Maybe this is just adulthood. Learning that not every special day will be celebrated the way your heart wants. Learning to swallow feelings with a smile. Learning that sometimes you matter quietly, not loudly.

It’s okay. I’ll still welcome my 19 with grace. Even if it’s a little lonely, it’s still mine. And maybe that’s enough. ✨

I admire how thoughtfully you’re trying to understand everyone’s side. That shows how kind your heart is. But please remember — understanding others doesn’t mean your feelings become any less important. Feeling ā€œsmallā€ in that moment is not a flaw in you. It’s simply your heart asking to be seen.

Birthdays are not just dates. They’re reminders that you exist, that your presence matters. So when your day became the one that could be ā€œadjusted,ā€ it’s natural that it hurt. You didn’t ask for something grand — just to not feel invisible. That’s a very human wish.

If this is adulthood, then maybe adulthood is also learning that some moments teach us who truly values us. And I believe your future will hold people who won’t make you feel like an option, but a priority.

Even if this birthday is quiet, it still marks the arrival of someone precious. You. And that alone is worth celebrating.

            Happy 19
May this year give you the warmth you missed today.

In the next four hours, I’ll turn 19. It feels strange to say that out loud — like I’m actually growing up. This is my first birthday away from my parents, so I won’t lie… I’m a little sad. But I guess this is also part of learning how to stand on my own.

I know birthdays come every year, and I’m not a kid anymore, but back home my birthday was always treated like a small festival. I’m the only girl in my family, so it was always special. That’s probably why today feels a little heavier than I expected.

I also know I shouldn’t say this, but one of my friends has her birthday tomorrow. I was excited for it too. I even planned a few things for her. But when my friends called and said, ā€œSasmita, you don’t expect grand surprises for yourself, but Somya has been hinting she wants a Pinterest-style surprise, so let’s do it for her,ā€ it kind of hit me.

I’m not against celebrating her. I don’t hate it. I just wish they understood that it’s my birthday too. Just because I don’t expect anything big doesn’t mean I should spend my midnight decorating for someone else’s birthday while mine quietly passes by. Singing for someone else at 12 while it’s my own birthday too… it stings a little.

But I can’t really say anything. She’s sensitive, and I don’t want to hurt anyone. So I’ll just smile and go along with it. Maybe I’m overreacting. Maybe it’s a small thing. But feelings aren’t always logical.

Still, I’ll be okay. I’m learning. Growing up, I guess.

Hey… I just read your message, and I want you to know your feelings are completely valid. Turning 19 away from home for the first time is a big moment, and it’s okay if it feels heavy instead of exciting. Missing your family and the way birthdays used to feel special doesn’t make you childish — it makes you human.

And about the surprise for your friend… I understand why it stings. You’re giving your time and energy to celebrate someone else exactly when a small part of you wishes someone would notice your day too. That doesn’t make you selfish or dramatic. It just means your heart wanted to feel remembered. Anyone in your place would feel the same.

Still, I’m proud of you for handling it with so much grace. But I hope someday you’ll allow people to celebrate you too — because you deserve that warmth just as much as you give it to others.

Even if it’s quiet this year, I hope your new age brings softer days, kinder people, and moments that feel like home again.

Happy birthday, truly. I’m cheering for you

 ANNOUNCEMENT | Upcoming Story

Some stories are written to entertain.
Some are written to be remembered.

This one was written to be felt.

Set in a world where power is inherited, danger is constant, and love is never simple, this story follows a woman who survives what love costs—and a man whose loyalty goes beyond life itself.

          It begins quietly.
          With conversations.
          With trust.
With a love that feels safe enough to last.

          And it unfolds slowly—
          through gestures instead of confessions,
          through silence instead of promises,
through choices that don’t ask for permission.

This is not a story about rebellion.
          It’s a story about devotion.

          Not about how love begins—
but about how it endures, even when everything else ends.

          If you like:

          slow-burn romance

          emotional depth over drama

love shown through actions, not words

stories that stay with you long after the last chapter

Then this story is for you.
