Why is it that we look to the past? Why is it that we choose to linger in a moment that we can no longer see, touch, or experience ever again? Perhaps it is the feeling that came with that particular moment. Perhaps it is the haunting memory of it. Whatever the case, we all have a few. Times that will forever be embedded into our brains that we will constantly remember for whatever reasons.
Not all memories are a curse as some are of people we loved. People we genuinely cared about and would have done everything we could have for, but in the end they chose to leave us behind.
For others perhaps the memory is of a particular special event like a birthday party. Perhaps a movie that left a lasting impression upon you. Who knows, maybe it's even your first kiss.
The rather humorous part about people being associated with memories is how easily it can swing your feelings towards them. Perhaps you remember the time that the two of you shared a large laugh over a joke, perhaps even a story. However, that feeling of joy can be stripped from you as soon as you remember times of strife that arose in your friendship or relationship. The arguments and debates that began over the dumbest of subjects, so dumb you cannot even remember what the topic was about.
For some memories is there only way to cope with a situation. Remembering the good times that were given and shared between two or more individuals. Times that were robbed from you when perhaps that other person passed from this world, or moved on leaving you behind.
Let's be honest though, we are guilty of that as well. We all have those friends that we left behind. People that we knew for a segment of our life, and then waved unknowingly goodbye to never to see again.
I suppose you could say that you didn't really say goodbye to them though as you remember them every now and then.
Memories... a curse, but yet such a blessing.
