Winner of the Dogfish Head Poetry Prize, Delaware Press Association Award for Best Verse, nominated for the Pushcart Prize, National Press Award for Best Verse. Awarded an NEA grant to adapt Romeo & Juliet into a rock musical for teenagers, Whitaker teaches Drama, Psychology, and English at Pocomoke High School. Whitaker is a member of the National Book Critics Circle. The author of three additional chapbooks of poetry and the YA ebook Seven Days on the Mountain, and Toxic Tourism: Dystopian Short Fiction, their chapbook The Black Narrows was selected for the Key Chapbook Series by the Broadkill Press. Many of the poems in The Black Narrows first appeared here.
