I'm an avid lover of literature and the power of the written word. I enjoy altering the perception of what might be expected or common by rearranging the pieces to a puzzle. My first two forays into writing are a bit of revisionist history and a touch of a remix.
My first story is my own take on Othello, a story I have always loved from one of the world's most brilliant writers. Set in modern day Philadelphia, Dr. Niccolo Malvagio is my reincarnation of Iago. A talented psychiatrist passed over for the position as head of the Behavioral and Mental Health Center of Philadelphia, Dr. Malvagio loathes his colleague, Dr. Michael Cassius (Cassio), heir to the helm of the Center upon the death of Dr. Olsen (Othello). My version explores the depths of manipulation a Malvagio sinks to as he seeks to bring down both Olsen and Cassius. There are elements that remain from Shakespeare's masterpiece, but I have taken my own liberties as well, hoping to rework the story for a more modern setting.
My second work is a reworking of Greek mythology. Plenty of stories have been written on the subject (the world has enough Zeus smut) bit always through the lens of the almost cliched, overused characters. To remedy this, I focus my story on Tyche, the goddess of luck, chance, and fortune, who I have genderbent into a god (because I would be lousy at writing as a woman and wouldn't do her the justice she deserves). In my modern world, some of the gods and Titans have perished, often as a result of their own hubris, though those that remain are not embroiled in Percy Jackson-esque escapades, but rather trying to fulfill their divine purposes while blending in among the mortals. As the god of luck, Ty Othonos (Greek for luck, his mortal name as he assumes a human role) was one of the first to build a mega resort in Las Vegas, the ancient Greek themed Athenian (think Caesars but less trashy and more authentic). A mixture of his existence and telling of actual mythology.
