To everyone moving/thinking of moving to ao3: I’m on there!! I’m also on quotev (which imo is an excellent alternative to wattpad for fanfic beginners; it’s similar enough, and also has quizzes for choose your own adventure type stuff and polls)! I’ve decided that I will no longer be posting on wattpad because I don’t like censorship, even tho I am largely unaffected by the changes and my account will stay up. I have a few things I’d like to say for you all about moving to ao3 in particular, as well.
1) Please do NOT report fic and/or tags you personally do not like or agree with. Number one rule is “don’t like, don’t read”. You are NOT REQUIRED to interact with things that you do not like. Please don’t harass authors over their works if it’s not your cup of tea; it’s not nice, nor it is good etiquette in the fandom community. First and foremost, ao3 is an ARCHIVE. This means that they are, essentially, a living logbook of all fanfiction and the original works posted there.
2) AO3 does NOT have an app. If you see something claiming it is, it’s lying to you. I’m not sure about android users, but on iOS you can add the site’s home page directly to your Home Screen through safari! Additionally, if you know how to use CSS, and honestly even you don’t, the site has public skins and a way to make your own to further tailor the look of the site for your account :)
3) For my fellow writers, the tag system on ao3 is a bit different than on here. You do not have to use a hashtag, nor do you need to say it all as one word. However, there is a bit more work required, such as listing the characters, the specific relationships (please be careful of character/character and character&character; these are different!), certain events - such as r@pe, SH, similar adult content, or even labeling a story as fluff or an au ! There are many wonderful tags for you all to use :D
