Author's Note

Some readers have asked why I chose ANINO instead of Shadow as the title.

I wanted a title that felt rooted in Filipino culture. While shadow describes something dark or the absence of light, anino carries a deeper meaning in Filipino. It can mean a shadow, a reflection, a lingering presence, or even something unseen that quietly follows us. It feels mysterious in a way that "shadow" doesn't fully capture.

This story is inspired by Philippine folklore, myths, and beliefs. Keeping the Filipino title is my way of honoring those roots. Even though the story is written in English, its heart remains unmistakably Filipino.

I hope, by the time you finish the story, you'll understand that ANINO is more than just a title—it's a part of the world itself.

          	Thank you for reading. ❤️

Chapter 7 teaser...

          Gabriel stared at the symbols.

          At first...

          they looked like meaningless lines.

          Then...

          One character shifted.

          He blinked.

          It was normal again.

          "...Did you see that?"

          The others looked at him.

          "See what?" Kristel asked.

          Gabriel hesitated.

          "...Nothing."

His eyes returned to the page.

          Another symbol slowly rearranged itself.

          Then another.

The faded markings seemed to breathe.

          Almost...

          as if they were waiting.

          Without realizing it...

          Gabriel leaned closer.

The strange symbols no longer looked random.

They began separating into familiar shapes.

          Words.

          He could almost read them.

          His heartbeat quickened.

A faint ringing filled his ears.

          Somewhere deep inside the library...

          A floorboard creaked.

          Gabriel looked up.

          Nothing.

          When he looked back down...

          The page was normal again.

          Just faded symbols.

          Just old ink.
