About an hour ago, I got message on my message board. It said that this month, my account was chosen for an "account safety review" by Wattpad's safety team.
At first everything seemed legit.
There was even a line about how they would never ask for my password or payments.
I was required to click on a link and the security review would take about an hour and after thirty minutes of this, I would regain access to my account.
It even had a "customer support number"
On just a more careful glance, I realised that this was a phishing attempt.
The link was not from Wattpad.
The mobile number was not legit.
If I had clicked, I would have been locked out of my account.
I went to the account. It had no followers, but had just one following.
When I went to that account, the message board was full of people saying that they would not fall for the phishing attempt.
People make mistakes when they are scared or worried. I advise you that you take a moment.
A deep breath.
And review everything,
And document everything.
Wattpad is a safe space for millions and it is a collective responsibility of us all to make sure it remains that way.
Hey! I see several other fans promoting their works here and I thought you letting us is pretty sweet. Absolutely love your works, especially Potter? It is is that very same favoured fandom of the wizarding world that I'm writing a fanfic. It's a Regulus Black x OC fanfic.
The dynamic is basically:
Two students who are both terrifyingly intelligent, deeply competitive, and absolutely incapable of leaving each other alone.
They've spent years sharing the same library, the same study schedules, and the same classes without ever learning each other's names.
Then Hogwarts decides to seat them together in Potions.
Which would be fine.
If they did think of each other as obstacles on their path to perfection.
The rivalry escalates from academic disagreements to increasingly petty acts of intellectual warfare:
— fighting through annotations in library books
— accidentally learning far too much about each other's habits
— becoming progressively more obsessed while insisting they are simply conducting research
It's a very slow burn.
Heavy emphasis on:
* academic rivalry
* mutual obsession
* "I need to defeat this person academically"
* enemies to lovers
* pureblood politics
* dual POV
* two people slowly realising they've become the most important variable in each other's lives
The worst part is that neither of them notices what's happening until it's far too late.
Decent writing. Consistent updates. Over 4 hours long. Currently reaching a rather major point. We're not even a quarter way into the plot.
