Summer had finally dawned upon the states, and students were set free from the jail known as their school.
Three months of sun of chill time, of freedom from work.
And Joel was more than ready for it.
-
“I’m just saying,” Darren said, opening the ketchup packet, “you seem to like a lot of girls. I doubt you’re bi, and that’s okay!”
“Right…” Joel bit into his sandwich, avoiding eye contact.
-
“Don’t do too much crime without me, yeah?” Etho teased, smiling at his boyfriend.
“Haha, I’ll try.” Joel elbowed him before smiling sincerely. “Have fun at the camp, yeah?”
-
“You love Etho, right?" Lizzie asked, putting a hand on Joel's shoulder.
"I- I don't know!" Joel sighed into his hands, slightly pulling at his hair. "I don't think I've ever been able to confidently love someone since..." His eyes trailed up to meet hers.
"Since...you."

For summer, I am making a sequel to We’re Just Friends called We’re Just Boyfriends (I know, so creative /s). Shoutouts to my dad giving me internalized homophobia and an excuse to write a sequel.
For context, the sequel is to the rewritten version not the original ;)
