My name is Seth Lyon and I'm the extremely handsome writer of this blog.
"Becoming" is a non-fictional series I've been working on for a little over a year. Each story in the series is a comedically-told (usually tragic) tale about a very real event in my life - with certain names and details changed to protect the identities of unsuspecting people.
Through a lot of sweat, tears, and mirror pep-talks, I've designed each of the stories in the series to reflect a time where I became something or someone I never expected to become.
The first question people usually ask me when they're reading through my stories is: why title every story with "becoming."
The simplest answer is that I have fallen in love with the word.
I have nearly a million half-completed journals in my room and at some point during my collection, I designated one of them to be a book of beautiful one-liners. You'd roll your eyes at most of them. They're all pretentiously poetic so I wont bore you with the specifics.
What I will tell you is that one of the sentences in that journal is:
"The person I am today and the person I am tomorrow are only distant relatives."
I add lines to the book almost every day but I only really read it when I have writer's block. I must have read that quote a hundred times while writing this series.
And while "How to Write," is technically the accidental introduction to the series, "Becoming A Cadaver," was the first story where I actually titled a story with "becoming." I was in college at the time and I had a big, revolving desk chair that I remember spinning around in, circling the quote above, wondering what I was becoming.
