My amazing friend @ms_horrendous is helping writers with their craft. Now there's a person who knows what she's talking about!

I was thinking of doing something like this myself and she beat me to it. I'll defer to her brilliance.

Black Thickett chapter five is now live!!

Would you stay in a village like this? Is relaxation THAT important? Let me know!

"It happened slowly, almost politely. Don't mind me. I'll do my best not to disturb you. You carry on. The distant hum of activity, what little there was, faded. The barking dogs, though they seemed to be doing so because that's what their kind did, rather than at anything specific, grew quiet. The muffled clatter of someone washing dishes behind a window ceased. Black Thickett had paused. It was waiting for something."

@Ankhlament @MS_Horrendous and I have been on here for a very long time (almost 14 years for me, I think).

@Ms_Horrendous I am very glad and happy that I found @ShaunAllan. I’m also following you for more updates and content. I’m new to this community, I didn’t know there was a website for writers until few days back.

Chapter Four of Black Thickett (ONC 2026) is now live!

"Sometimes I hear him," she whispered. "Jack. He's not the boy I remember. It's not quite his voice, but close enough that I almost answer."

Edmund felt the skin along his arms prickle.

          "At night?" he asked.

"Of course. Always at night. Well, sometimes in the early morning mist, like we had today before the sun shooed it off. Mostly when it's dark, though. Feels like the woods are breathing him out."

She stared past him toward the treeline at the end of the road. Involuntarily, he followed her gaze.

"The forest takes what it wants," she said quietly, not wanting it to hear her. "It doesn't give it back."

"What does it want with you?"

          It's a forest. Just trees. Nothing more. It doesn't – can't - want anything.

          "Not me."

Her eyes settled on him. He could feel their weight. Measuring. Knowing.

"But it looks at you. I can tell."
