After years of dealing with these very complicated, painful emotions, that have torn me apart inside, I have come to a conclusion.
Steven Universe is a good show. Genuinely, and unironically. It has a fun art style, the colors are gorgeous, the animation is high-quality, the vocal talents on the show are incredible, the story is engaging, and the strides it made for both LGBT+ representation AND mental health discussion in cartoons cannot be overstated.
That being said,
Spinel is a poorly written character, and I despise her. Whenever I see her, I will now forever be filled with hatred, and never again the joy she once made me feel half a decade ago, before I got fucked up again.
And that's okay.
There's nothing I can do about it now.
And despite how much I hate her now, I would be lying if I said the good memories I have of her from back then don't still make me crack a weak smile every now and again.
Both of these opinions can coexist within me now, and I don't have to feel emotional turmoil over it.
That's the beauty of it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go watch Miraculous
