Erljack: a descendant of shrews that looks like a cross between a monkey and a rat, it poses a serious issue for humans and ecosystems. Able to hunt either alone or in packs of various sizes, they are consistently at odds with both humans and other Verandertiers.

            - most Erljack's have some amount of venom and a limited form of echolocation, inherited from their shrew ancestors. An Erljack is sometimes able to emit a focused sound wave in the form of a sonic scream, and is guaranteed to gain this ability upon becoming an Erlking.

            - when in large enough packs, the alpha adopts a form better suited to keep the others in check and maintain leadership, the Erlking.

            - The Erljack has a volatile healing factor; allows them to heal minor wounds instantly, but taking too much damage can cause them to mutate and become extremely violent, even to others of its kind.

            - they reproduce rapidly, and new forms will arise if enough generations pass.
