Hey this is mysunshine and I like the idea of us making one book that's like a help book we could make a forum post asking what people need help with in short stories or in general and make a book from it. Each either adding in on the same topics or each choosing a different topic?

Hey I wouldn't mind that!

@ShortStoryWriters should we include short stories we have already published on our own pages or focus on ones we haven't?

iggykoh

Either that or we come up with a writing help book where each of us take a certain chapter and topic to help writers with.

@mysunshine621 I think we could do the unfinished ones but maybe put one of our completed ones here to give others a sense of how well we can write?

@Triteia I completely agree with iggy . Something my writing teacher used to have us do was to sit down and make a list of what the character looks like then cross out what you've already shown them and then slip the other things in as the story progresses that way as they get to know the personality they vision the person better!

@kmgalaxy when I am describing a fight scene I was always told that you (as in the character) will have adrenaline pumping so you won't remember every single detail so I like to leave little things out and not tell all the details until later. With dialogue in a fight scene let the characters personalities come out and shine through the words that way you don't have to say who said what! I hope this helps. I can explain in further detail if you need it!

@kmgalaxy I think if you follow what Maddie (@mysunshine621) said, it would mean that you're writing in first person. The adrenaline would make it realistic to forget certain parts. This is partly why I don't write first person fight scenes. On the other hand, in third person, you can put in every detail because you're the omnipresent being and can see what goes on in the fight. Basically it depends on who are the ones fighting. In my only book with fight scenes, it's angels vs demons so there is some destruction to the surroundings and they can use powers etc. Human fights will have to have a little realism and perhaps it will show how well you can write with the limited amount of things humans can do :)

How do you go about describing characters? I struggle with painting a picture of my characters without doing it in that super stupid lame un-original way where you just list everything out. HELP! :)

@Triteia. The characters shouldn't be told to the readers per se. For example, if he has blue eyes, you can describe a scene where his eyes were looking at something or someone and you mention their colour. Many people like to describe someone's features as if they're describing a picture i.e. She had black hair, blue eyes, and a slim body. Slowly reveal your character to the audience instead of spamming it all in a paragraph or worse, a sentence. If there are anymore things you wish to clarify, do continue to ask :)

Hi guys, since we have decided to do this collaboration, let's make it work by getting more people to notice us. Maybe we could source around the short story forum for people who need help and direct them here (via PM)

We ahould post our best story here to show our credentials too, I guess. If yours is a book with many short stories then that's fine. Looking forward to working with you guys!

That sounds like a fabulous idea to me! We could each have our own book, and each "chapter" can be a story with the chapter's title being the story title. That way we don't overload the account with a bunch of stories. -Kasey
