Can we get real for a minute. Okay, lets talk about OCD. Now this isn't supposed to be a holier-than-thou speech, I have used this term myself. OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder, is a mental illness. It usually takes the form of obsessive actions, which are done to ease an anxiety. For instance, a man who almost died in a fire as a child may check his oven every five minutes, this would appease his obsession for the time being. This illness usually makes getting a job, relaxing, or really doing anything almost impossible. Now, if you've surveyed the internet, you would see that people use the term OCD very loosely. What most of these people are saying the have is OCPD, obsessive compulsive personality disorder. Why the two may sound similar, they are both extremely different. OCPD is more of a rigidity toward things, like orderliness.
So why are we using the term OCD, a debilitating mental illness, when referring to our friends. I mean, you wouldn't joke about your friend having Syphilis, or Polio. So I ask you, my dear followers, next time you think of insulting someone, calling them Psycho, or OCD, try not to.
I really need to get that off my chest, thank you
