When you think about it, we really owe our very lives to dreams. Seriously, everything encountered in our modern life is the product of imagination.
Once upon a time, the computer in front of you was nothing but a fleeting spark of innovation in an inventor's mind. It journeyed from an immaterial concept to a two dimensional mock-up and ultimately it arrived as the tangible reality at the center of your day to day routine. That's an impressive trip for a humble little spark.
Despite an endless list of obstacles, humankind has duplicated this type of process countless times, pooling its creativity over the ages to litteraly reshape the natural world. What this means to me is that in the mind's eye, in the refuge of our dreams, imagination is a limitless resource. The creative mind should never be tamed or intimidated by outside pressures. It's a shame when artists shy from reaching their dreams out of fear of what the world will think. The truth is, a lot of people have this thinking backwards: it's the world that submits to the power of dreams. Street by street, brick by brick, every citiy was dreamed into being. It takes creativity to imagine tomorrow. It could even be said that without imagination there IS no tomorrow.
Anyway, that's my take on creativity and storytelling.
