The Boundless Gale is a fantasy light novel set in Albion, a nation governed by the Conclave - a regime that controls Essence users through registration, taxation, and force.

Seventeen-year-old Koa Beaumont is an unregistered Skyborn raised in Blackgrass Ferry by his aunt Carrie. When Carrie dies of Blue Fever, Koa is arrested after assaulting Delta Guard officers who come to collect her debts. Two letters found among her effects reveal the truth Carrie kept from him: Koa's father was David Beaumont, a soldier who fled the war that killed his mother - Annette Vast - making Koa the last surviving heir of the defeated House Vast. Koa burns the letters and chooses to leave the legacy behind.

Sentenced to Camp Leviathan, Koa meets Mashū, a veteran prisoner who has survived five years by refusing to hope, and a small crew of misfits - the quick-tongued Merewyn and the formidable Brandt. When Koa steals a set of NullCuff keys, he makes a choice that wasn't in anyone's plan: he frees every prisoner in the facility, not just himself. The breakout fractures the Conclave's public authority and pulls Koa's crew into open conflict with High Inquisitor Valthorn, a soldier-hunter whose fanaticism runs deeper than his rank.

Fleeing across Albion, the group encounters the Cinder Covenant - a faction experimenting on unregistered Essence users - and the conspiracy begins to connect to the war that orphaned Koa before he was born. By the volume's end, Koa has lost his home, burned what remains of his past, and discovered a second affinity - Water, awakening in the ruins of Blackgrass Ferry as grief cracks something open in him that he doesn't yet understand.

The Boundless Gale Volume 1 is complete with around 80,000 words. It is the first installment of a planned series.
