My "read and hate" list. If your story ends up there...like I said, it's not necessarily a bad place to be. It means you got to me in some way that I didn't like.
Backstory: My mom heard me yelling about a book I read when I was a teenager that infuriated me. So she told me that she also read books that did the same to her. She told me about this one time that she was reading a book while traveling in her car. It was a really good book. She couldn't put it down! And then she got to the end and was so angry at how the author ended to book that she literally threw the book out the car window. She said it was the most horrible ending imaginable and the author could have done so many better things with the ending.
So, what my "read and hate" list really means is you created a violently emotional response in me. I probably wouldn't throw the book out a car window if I had a physical paper copy in my hands because...litter is a no for me...but I might have been tempted to burn it. Seriously, it could be a really well written story but I didn't enjoy where it took me emotionally.
