Love is like two songbirds. They'll sing to each other for the rest of their lives, but never sing to themselves. They speak to impress the other, keeping their true selves inside. When you sing to yourself, the other birds find you selfish and attention-seeking. Only the bird that understands you won't fly away. The truest songbird would fly to your side, singing their sorrows and woes as well to fill the forest with their built up sadness. Then it leaves you, creating happier songs and even better lives. Together the two songbirds would live a better life, knowing their true selves have been exposed and accepted.
If your song scares all the birds away, then you didn't love the right bird. Find someone that will sit down and listen to you, understand you, and accept you for who you are.
