About Me:
I am the goddess of wisdom, military victory, and art, so if you’re smart, thank me, if not, leave me alone (and it’s probably Ares’ fault). I like books, owls, olives, weaving, and giving mortals advice; I dislike idiots, Hera, Ares, Poseidon, and spiders. My mother Metis, the goddess of prudence, lives inside my father Zeus’ head. Before I was born, Zeus heard this prophecy that if my mother ever had a son, that son would go on to overthrow Zeus. Obviously, that could never be allowed to happen, so Zeus tricked my mother into turning herself into a fly. And then he swallowed her.
Really romantic, huh?
Anyway, Metis went up to Zeus’ brain, and began her current job of giving him advice. Meanwhile, she was already pregnant with me, which presented a problem, because she was residing in Zeus’ head (which can not be the roomiest place sometimes, if you know what I mean. Don’t tell him I said that). So, when I was born, Hephaestus split Zeus’ skull open, and out I came, fully grown.
Since then, I’ve done a few interesting things, including creating spiders (I’m so sorry, world) and helping people like Odysseus and Perseus. These days, I tend to enjoy hanging around places like Google (of which I am technically “registered” as an employee), Apple (“registered” as an employee!), Barnes & Noble, and various other hotspots of intelligence and/or learning. Now, I really must go; Ares is causing another poorly planned war. Farewell.
