She leads you to a room at the top of the stairs overlooking the parlor. "This will be your room for the time being. Do not enter any other room without permission. There are proper facilities in your room. Keep the windows covered at night and the door closed and secured. Do not leave your room while it's dark as I will not allow candles and lamps to burn all night. No smoking or leaving the oil lamp on all night. Oil is expensive to buy frivolously. If you wish to eat or lodge here, you are expected to assist with any tasks that need done or you may find yourself in the barn with the rest of the animals."

I follow the woman, wondering if she'll give me a name to address her by. I don't want to be rude and ask her for anything but a glass of water or where the facilities are.

The woman gives you a short nod. "Very well. We don't accept anything but labor for a night's rest and a day's worth of meals. You may help collect eggs for breakfast in the morning or fetch water from the stream for tea to earn your breakfast. Follow me."
