What's the problem with wanting her book being properly translated? I think any of us, if have a book, and give permission for translation wouldn't want it to be rewritten (and without permission) it's HERS

I just want to clarify some things and shed light on a recent situation that's been occurring on my profile.
When I first began publishing my stories on Wattpad, I received several requests from non-native English speakers for permission to translate my stories into their native languages. I, as a young teen and inexperienced writer, was very excited for this opportunity to expand my audience. I accepted almost every request without knowing or understanding what this meant for the protection of my intellectual property.
Recently, I discovered through a concerned reader that someone had published a translation of my Final Girl series on their profile. As I began reading, I realized that they had altered my story to include their original character as the main love interest instead of maintaining the original reader-insert style that I intended. I consider this a mistranslation, misinterpretation, and misrepresentation of my work. I asked this user to please remove my stories from her profile. When she posted an explanation to her audience as to why these stories were being taken down, I started receiving hateful messages on my conversations page.
I stand by my decision to have this translated story removed. I understand that translating massive texts requires hard work and dedication, and I commend the translator for this. However, I found it inappropriate that she actively chose to change my story without permission or without notifying me at all. I felt as though it were a slap in the face to the hours of research, outlining, drafting, and editing that goes into the work that I publish on this page.

@Soul_Candy Crappy people will spend all their energy screwing over another person or doing things like this rather than just making their own thing. And of course there’s the ones that follow that are just entitled and don’t care at all. I’m sorry this happened to you hun, but you got support here.

@Soul_Candy This really shows how people don't value other people's work. I understand that the translator put in a lot of effort, but that doesn't mean she could have modified the text without permission. You two acted very maturely! Unlike some totally uninformed followers, the story is YOUR, you decide whether you want it removed or not. They had no right to comment unpleasant things on your profile because of it, and I'm glad they liked the story, but they shouldn't come here to devalue all your work just because you politely asked for the story to be removed! I'm also a reader and I speak another language (which would be Portuguese), and to understand the text in other languages I use Google Translate to read (it translates the website), and I don't know how to write and I don't have much knowledge of English, and I'm using Google Translate to write this (that's why some things may be written incorrectly or somewhat literally?), I'm glad you resolved the situation in the best way ✧

Hola, perdón si mi petición se malinterpreto y se que ya es desicion tuya si quisiste que la borrarán en vez de sólo cambiar el nombre, perdona por el malentendido, gracias por preocuparte de que alguno de nosotros realmente tenga una buena experiencia pero ya no me creo capaz de ver la historia ni de votar por ella, si la sube de nuevo, aunque si lo hace, la leeré y votaré por ella todo el tiempo que sea necesario para que vuelva a tener su fama, era realmente buena y haré que vuelva a serlo

@ Chaeumii si fuera yo no me hubiera ido a quejar literal en otro idioma solo por la traducción que se hizo en otro idioma. Solamente por algo tan tonto como un nombre porque eso es realmente inmaduro, o sea imagínate que estás leyendo una historia y alguien se queje solamente por el nombre de la protagonista

You did not ask me to have the stories taken down, but it is ultimately what I decided to do with the information presented to me.

I think it's wrong that you told someone who translated three books into Spanish—so people who don't know English could read them—to delete her stories. Forcing her to delete them just because of a petty whim, over using a proper name instead of "Y/N", shows you don't have much maturity. It's completely unfair to make someone delete all that work over something like that.

@AmaiaGarciaParra Hello! Just to clarify, they are not her stories. What she had published on her profile were translations of MY stories. I asked her to take my stories off of their profile because she did not ask me before changing my works to include her original characters. I think this is entirely fair. Thank you for letting me know how you feel.

Hello. Honestly, I think it's very disappointing on your part as a writer that you would make someone who helped bring more visibility to your story delete it because of complaints from an outside person who has nothing to do with the story and is not even truly reading it. If they were genuinely interested in the story, they wouldn't be complaining about something as minor as the protagonist's name.
You're also not taking into account all the time and effort that the translator invested in translating your story into Spanish. If you truly cared about your story, you wouldn't be asking someone to remove it, because that person is helping your story reach more readers, while the person who complained is actually making it less visible.
When someone genuinely likes a story, they don't start complaining about something as insignificant as a name. I really did like the story, but after what happened, I honestly don't like it anymore. And it's not because of the story itself, but because of the English author. Thank you

@ZMellBlommer Hi! Thank you so much for leaving this message. I think it's important to understand how my readers feel. However, I am entitled to my books and the stories that I write. They are my intellectual property. This user translated a story that I wrote in English into Spanish, which I understand is very impressive and labor intensive. But in doing so, they took artistic liberties that were not previously discussed with me and I was not consulted or asked permission for making changes to my works. I spend a lot of time and effort writing original fanfiction and I do not think it was in my best interest as a writer to condone someone's publication of an interpretation of my story and passing it off to Spanish-speaking audiences as an accurate translation of my work. I'm sorry that my decision was disappointing to you.
