Y’know what irks me a little bit
On Wattpad you can vote per chapter
Which as a premise is nice, but it can really skew statistics
For example, you have a fic with 1.2k votes vs a fic with 320 votes
You’d assume the former is more well received and therefore better, right?
But what if the 1.2k fic has 120 chapters while the 320 fic has 17 chapters? That’s 10 votes a chapter vs almost 19 votes a chapter
The same applies to the number of reads a fic has
It’s per chapter, not per story, so stories with longer chapters but fewer of them are ultimately hurt, which makes it more profitable to deliver short chapters and have more of them
Is this about fanfiction and therefore shouldn’t be thought about this deeply? Yeah probably
But it’s cultivating readers with shorter attention spans because, ultimately, the best way to get your fanfiction noticed is to post a lot of short chapters

Dang-
          	  technically yeah
but isn't that how everything on the internet is skewed nowadays, especially with the rise of tiktok and youtube shorts and stuff, people simply watch the short form content more often and over and over again, leading short-based channels to suddenly get getting thousands of views and subscribers compared to long form content makers because it just appeals faster to the younger generations that have shorter attention spans

everyone nowadays has too short of attention spans and businesses like this platform, tiktok and youtube are just taking advantange because at the end of the day these platforms are businesses to make a profit of to feed people's families

          	  ...
how much did i just say

Well gang, this is a hard one to say

I want to make it clear that I haven’t come to a decision yet, but I might be leaving the platform. I’m on the fence because of a few things.

For one, I love hanging out here and reading peoples’ stories (when they upload once a blue moon- guilty myself). For another, this is where I met my best friends, so it’s a bit hard to let it go.

However, it’s undeniable that the Regulars fandom has changed, and whether or not it’s changed for the better or worse is in the eye of the beholder. It’s just clear that it’s changed, and I’m still living in the era that it hasn’t.

Also, it’s come to my attention that Ao3 has taken off as far as Regulars fanfictions, which is great because the writers have really grown, something I’m still not used to (I’m used to the same like, 5 people uploading, not so many new faces). But…

There’s smut. And I’m not saying smut is bad or that you shouldn’t read it or anything like that, but it’s awkward when the writers of it use the creators’ real names and stuff like that. It makes it feel like they’re writing about the actual people instead of the characters, and it’s uncomfortable. That being said, if you don’t find it uncomfortable, no judgement here. Considering one day I want to make real, original stories, I don’t want to be tagged as a writer of that kind of topic simply because I write in a small fandom that has a growing interest in it.

I’m still not sure what I’ll do, and I’ll let y’all know when I do come to a decision. If I do decide to leave, I’m going to post every unposted chapter I’ve written as a last hurrah.

Hey… Might be a bit late but, understandable. This fandom has gone through a lot of changes and I am techincally leaving it or have left it, creating two other stories that no one will read. The other two, SIFH and MBNF have been on almost full hold…… I really dont want to continue as I am burnt out and unsure on how to proceed. But I know that it cant end yet…… So, whatever you choose StacklessPancake :), you know you have people that will support your decision no matter what.

Hey, that's all good. Honestly, the content that we've been getting for this fandom has changed drastically. And I don't blame you for thinking about it.

With whatever desicion you make, we'll support you, and just know that you've been an amazing person to have read stories from. Cheers! :>

Another year another ‘Pancake rewrites the same 3 chapters of LN instead of posting new ones’

JacquelineJacQuay

@StacklessPancake @SwiftpoolWrites I think both stories are equally amazing because both are fun to read and are written by cool people :>

Btw I know it was ambiguous in the Chapter but Time and Space aren’t OCs you’ve seen them before
(I’m talking about that one Scourge of Sadness chapter where Frost was reminiscing
You guys probably don’t remember that or don’t care if they’re OCs or not but I Do so there)

StacklessPancake

@JacquelineJacQuay Yeah you’ve read a lot of one of them
And the other was mentioned like
            Idk once
