Hello.
Chapter 57 of "Into the Darkness" will be published sometime in the next 7 days. This chapter should technically wrap up the main story, as the "Epilogue" (Chapter 58) will be something else entirely.
I also plan to do some major rewrites for the early chapters. Here are the revisions I had in mind:
- Cut down on the purple prose and overly complex language (obvious).
- Fix Shinobu's personality in the early chapters. That is, make her less "tsundere" and more "angry," in a sense.
- Include more foreshadowing (this is vague — I will have to think about this).
- Give more prominence to the Butterfly Estate staff (Kanao, Aoi, Sumi, Kiyo, and Naho).
- Fix the Osore fight to somewhat compensate for the lack of consistency in the power scaling.
- BIG CHANGE: I want to completely redo Shinobu's dreamscape sequence in Chapters 7-8. My preference is to remove the 1960s Japan scenario and replace it with a normal, Taishō-era alternate timeline where Shinobu's parents survived, and the sisters never became demon slayers. Basically, a "what if Shinobu lived a normal life." I think this would be far more compelling than whatever nonsense I wrote, as it would directly address a key component of her character arc.
I'm also open to any other suggestions for improving the book.
Now, as for implementing these changes, I thought about publishing a separate book called "Into the Darkness (Legacy)", where the old versions of each chapter would be preserved. Let me know what your thoughts are.
Also, I messed up the flashback sequence in Chapter 55, cause technically Eito already asked Giyuu for permission to marry Tsutako in Chapter 15 (in fact, Giyuu pointed out that they didn't need his permission if they truly loved each other). So… gotta fix that.
