Losing someone can make a person delusional or in nicer words 'hoping for a wonder'. So as example when your loved one is dying (or in this case becoming someone else) and there is zero percent you can do to stop it from happening. You lose your conscience mind to insanity Which is completely normal in this situation your mind starts to give you hope so you can carry on without losing it. So you see his lost pieces and see a chance of surviving because you need it more then them. They might lose themselves or their lives but they don't have to see the shit going down because they are the shit.
