I’m writing Chapter Two of Rue Winters and the Legerdemain Trials and okay. This is not quite where I was expecting it to go, but I appear to have rushed a redemption arc of sorts for a character who does not matter in the long run… not over the course of Rue’s upcoming adventures, anyway.

And given that the chapter is currently titled ‘The Crow and The Cat’, and the first 400 words have been very unrelated to crows or cats, chapter titling is going great. But yes, Merle and Hecate are going to be turning up at some point, or else I’m going to have to call it something completely different.

Then again, chapter one was ‘Tales of the Future’ which is not actually all that relevant so, yeah.

(Truth is I’m having a hypo myself right now and while it’s not as bad as Rue’s my head hurts. So maybe I’m like semi-projecting or something.)

Update: I’m making some wild progress, but I’m realising that Alec and Kieran’s story is not really meant to be done in a single novella. I suppose I always knew this, which presumably means it’ll never do all that well, but the original plot thread will come to a close. It’s just everything else that’s gonna… not get all wrapped up nicely.

Maybe I’m just not cut out for novellas. Or standalones. Or both.

I've written three chapters today -- not sure how long this burst of inspiration is going to last, but now that I'm off college I should have plenty of time to make the most of it! Although whether the chapters are any good is a different matter... time to start working on chapter 12?

I thought I could make each 'part' of Darkling six chapters long, and organised the whole story accordingly -- changing the chapter-number-images and the ones at the end of each chapter every six chapters and putting it all together so I had all my twenty-four chapters set up and ready to go.

And then chapter six got out of hand and I need to fix 7, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21, and then add another four chapters before maybe making an actual outline so this doesn't happen again. Note to self -- never over-prepare. This is not going to be fun...

I decided to make Part Three's images a little different, actually, so cue changing... 15, 16, 17 and 18, as well as the actual 'marker image' for Part Three altogether. I like making my life difficult...
