I could tell she was trying to act normal and alert so we wouldn’t worry about her even though the situation with the security guards had worn her out. The color in her cheeks was still gone, but I decided that if she had enough energy to at least pretend that everything was okay, then she would be fine.
Drew whistled in agreement as he surveyed the space. The large room was furnished with one long couch, two matching armchairs with a coffee table in between, and a huge flat screen TV on the wall. There was a full bar to the right hand side of the room with four bar stools, and on the left hand side there was a long glass table step up for a buffet.
After opening the mini fridge behind the bar and pulling out a soda, my brother looked around again and frowned. “Wait, how do you watch the concert in here?” he asked.
Lucy grinned and sauntered to the other side of the room where a huge purple curtain was hanging. A perfectly manicured hand reached up and tugged at the fabric.
“Like this.” She threw back the curtain to reveal a glass wall that was actually a sliding door. Beyond the door was a balcony with two rows of movie theater seating and beyond that was the huge stage. “When we go to shows in New York, Daddy always rents out a suite,” she said completely impassive to the luxury of the room, as if the VIP suite was an everyday standard in her life. It didn’t surprise me; my Aunt Jackie and Uncle Cole were loaded.
“This is beyond exciting,” Cara gasped and looked down at the stage. Her voice was light and no longer weary and she was starting to sound like herself again. Maybe Cara really had known what was best for her, which was that this concert was the perfect remedy to a potentially dreadful birthday.
