I am 75 years young; retired after a 35 year career in Australia's federal public service, which culminated in an appointment as Private Secretary to our then PM Bob Hawke.
I thought , during my career that my role was always so important and the work I was doing was of great benefit to all. I now realize that what I did pales in to insignificance when viewed against the reality of today's world.
I now jokingly refer to my "all important" career as my apprenticeship in to futility.
I am retired to a small island in Moreton Bay Queensland , where I enjoy a sub tropical climate and the peace and serenity that island living provides.
I am a member of a writers' group and have been writing my first novel "Maggie" for over 3 years with intermittent breaks for inspiration.
I join wattpad to try to get my motivation levels up. I am only halfway through my novel and am at a point where I am finding it difficult to motivate myself .
I am publishing most of what I have written to get an idea as to whether I am wasting my time in pursuing a plan to have my novel published. So I would like comments , both critical and hopefully encouraging and helpful to perhaps get me moving again.

This is a story dedicated to Maggie my mother.
A story of great love, poverty, deprivation and often despair...
