THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been meaning to message you back, and I will, I'm so thankful to you for all your help! I'm going to write out a response message but I had a side thought that I was excited to tell you! (I soo wish we had dms, please feel free to delete these conversations when we're done so you don't have to have them on your announcement board <3 )

So I work at a coffee shop and today a group of women came in. I recognized them speaking a different language and was pretty sure it was Korean. When I delivered their drinks they said, "감사합니다" and I was like 헐! 한국말이네요!

So I asked them about it and mentioned I was studying Korean and asked them how to say "you're welcome" in Korean (The phases I have learned are the most random and mostly unhelpful in normal conversations...blame skz)

It was super cool because when they left I called out "좋은 하루 되세요!" some of the group that had come later got super excited I communicated in their language. It was just super wholesome because the Korean population where I go to school is extremely low (like zero...small college) so I'm always thrilled to meet people!! Like it was such an honor, I really wish I knew more, I love to carry a full conversation! It's such a beautiful language and I started learning it just so I could connect with the culture more!! Idk, it was just a geeky wonderful moment I wanted to share. I really wish I had more connections with Korea, I hope to some day :)

Swanfeather_

@LilaJeanB Woah! That seems like an awesome moment! It also seems really wholesome lol :D
I had this random thought like, what if we met each other randomly one day? I bet it'd be awesome if that happened despite my social anxiety :')
I belive you can learn more Korean! I did hear it's kinda difficult to learn for foreigners, especially about the numbers, though I can't be really sure about that :P

Hey Jade!!
I wanted to dm you (but those jumped out a window :/ ) to ask you something. I'm currently writing a character who's half Korean and I would love to hear, from your life experiences, is there anything to be aware of to make his depiction more realistic and avoid harmful stereotypes?
          Thank you!

Swanfeather_

@LilaJeanB Here are some of the most common stereotypes that definitely aren't true ( or atleast just half true)
-Not all Koreans are obsessed with Kimchi, you're just as likely to find people who hate kimchi when you're going around
-Not all people like K-pop or other Korean culture ( as for me I have never become obsessed with Kpop or Kdramas and stuff)
-All Koreans (as are asians) are smart: I'd say this is about half true, it's quite right that academic succession is very upheld in our society however if you take just one look at our class you might just think differently lol
-the accent that is stereotypical is partially existent, I mean a lot of Koreans don't have it including me but then again it's used a lot by others. If your making a half-korean oc they'll probably not have one
-my friends say that there's a stereotype that Koreans all eat spicy things well, and it's again half true as while there are many instances of Koreans seeming to absolutely love spicy things I can definitely say that I as well as many others cannot.

Here are things that are absolutely true:
-we do not like to use the number 4 much, because it has the same pronounciation as 'death' in Hanja (i think so lol)
-we also do not write our names in red, because it was used to write dead peoples' names before. When I was a kid I used to freak out whenever I saw that haha
            -we don't tip
-schools and exams are absolute hell, might have a bit of influence by my test ridden brain but yeah, exams are hell
-koreans generally like fast stuff, like fast wifi. There's a reason why the wifis so fast around here!
-finally, we have excellent unity. Take the 2002 world cup or 1997 IMF crisis, if something happens to us, whether it's good or bad, we're standing up together to face it.

Hope this helped, let me know if you need anything else!

Also my scores are out... I thinkk

100 on English and math. I gambled(?) On our question on history and got it wrong, so 96. Science is 97, courtsey of having one question off.

Korean is... weird. I got 96, then my teacher took 3 off, then gave it back so well I think? It's 96.

          Total 489/500, avrg 97.8 I think?

LilaJeanB

@Swanfeather_ CONGRATULATIONS!! Either way, you got a fantastic score-I'm so happy for you!!!
