          + I just searched Hoseki no kuni for crossover fanfics and stumbled into your story through the tags. 
          I see interesting set up, I read
          I read all available parts, like it, save it, check last update, wait for next update if it’s quite recently updated.

@KatieWilliams200 I wonder what my take on “gems in our modern world” would be? 
          
          Hell, I might not even place them in our world, given that my choice of environment leans towards fantasy.

imo, what keeps my interest alive is the creative freedom fanfic writers get. 
          A similar situation, same characters, with different outcomes, different paths.

          That extends to why I enjoy reading fanfics: seeing characters in situations (sometimes worlds) you wouldn’t see in the original source. In your case, the gems in an unfamiliar Earth from some centuries ago.

As for her being the mother, one could argue that she’s fixing gems not only because it’s her job, but because she cares for their fellow gems; her care for her daughters as gems carries forward to the gems. Now, vice versa.

But having Rutile be the mother is creative. Mainly because I have yet to see a fanfic focusing on rutile before stumbling into yours but my point still stands
          
          A knowledgeable doctor in a world where such knowledge is unteachable by none. It fits; the only way for rutile to have such knowledge is for her to have been taught, and where else but the human world?
