Can someone explain what “Isekai/Isokai” is?
It's not literally an anime. Isekai is a Japanese word:
異 (i) = different / unusual
世界 (sekai) = world
So the literal meaning of the word is "different world".
Isekai is a Japanese storytelling genre where a character is transported, reborn, or trapped in another world.
Think of it like:
You → accidentally die / get summoned / walk through magic portal → wake up in fantasy world → suddenly you have powers, destiny, or at least a suspiciously dramatic haircut.
From a storytelling mechanics view, isekai is basically a “fish out of water” narrative on steroids. It lets writers explore world-building fast, because the main character learns the world at the same pace as the audience.
