"Five, stop! Please don't go!" you sobbed, your little voice cracking with pure heartbreak.
Five skidded to a halt, his chest heaving as he stared down at you. For a single, fleeting second, the blind fury in his eyes cracked, replaced by a flash of absolute agony. He hated seeing you cry more than anything in the world. He instinctively reached out, his hands hovering over your trembling shoulders as if he wanted to scoop you up, drag you back upstairs, and hide you away from the old man forever.
But the anger burning inside him was too hot, too suffocating.
"I have to, Y/N," Five whispered, his voice shaking with a terrifying mixture of resolve and resentment. "I'm not staying in this cage anymore. I'm ready. I'll prove it to him."
"No! It's cold outside! Stay with me, Fivey, please!" You reached forward, your tiny fingers desperately gripping the stiff fabric of his uniform blazer, trying with all your toddler strength to anchor him to the floor.
"Let go, Eight," he murmured, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. He gently, but firmly, pried your small hands off his coat. He leaned down, pressing one final, fiercely protective kiss to the top of your head. "I'll be back before dinner. I promise."
"Five—!"
Before the sob could fully leave your throat, Five turned and threw the massive front doors open. He didn't just walk out; he activated his powers. Whoosh. A bright blue flash of crackling electricity illuminated the grand foyer, and in the blink of an eye, he vanished into the bustling city streets.
