I think it’d be fun if the colour of magic didn’t correspond to what it did at all
For example you’re in an underground cavern, there’s snow everywhere and snowflakes flutter down from the high ceiling - icicles dripping on the ground from above. There’s a white crystal in the centre of the cave, gently pulsating a light blue. You say the incantation, channelling the crystal’s magic - fully expecting to gain powers related to the cold. Instead, undead zombies start digging their way out of the ground - the cavern being home to a mass crypt underneath it. You are in control of a zombie hoard, but the white crystal gives you no ice powers
Or, you’re given an inky black egg that emanates wisps of smoke from cracks in the shells texture. The surface ripples with movement, almost as if the egg itself is breathing. It was given to you by Shadowbeard - a man that has guarded this creature for centuries. At last, the egg hatches - making you become the protector of the brightest, most painfully yellow light dragon you’ve ever laid your eyes on. You dart your gaze back to the now broken shell - now being able to see the deep purple interior. The edgy shadow dragon you were somewhat expecting has turned out to be an equally edgy and moody sunshine dragon
@That_Dam_Geko this would be really interesting in worlds where the different colours for magic are already well established in culture as well death being portrayed as something sky- light and cold and airy light magic portrayed as curtains unfurling to reveal light, showing more of a play between both light and the dark values light can create from being cast over objects and leaving shadows, rather than a focus on only the light itself also imagine warm colours like reds and oranges being used for cold magic, the ways people would think of and symbolise things in their art would be entirely different things that would make us think of heat might make them think of cold, and vice versa :)

Like I keep envisioning stuff really intensely in my minds eye and at some point I fear I’m going to start doing it for real
It’s not helping the feeling of being in a dream (or smth)
@That_Dam_Geko i have shitty intrusive thoughts too the only thing you can do is label them as intrusive and follow the white elephant / red balloon principle (instead of focusing on them, try to replace them with another better thought, i use dnf for the most part) it sucks that there's not more to do to get rid of them, but in my experience, they sorta get worse and better in waves i hope they get better in general tho, it really sucks feeling unreal or like a bad person because of thoughts you literally cannot control its hard sometimes, but try to remember that the fact you're uncomfortable with the thoughts on any level at all is what makes them intrusive, and your thoughts don't define you or things that you would actually be willing to do
