TheAdeptPen

Hello all you wonderful people. Thank you again for the time and energy you gave to the first Adept Pen Writers Awards. It was an experience for all of us and I'm glad we did it, but I'm now faced with a dilemma.

I don't have it in me to run another award solo, and I don't have the time to turn this account into a legitimate community all by myself, BUT I also don't want to abandon it.

I've thought about using it for shameless self promotion of my own work in progress, The Autum Prince, but typing the name right there is the only boost I'm going to give it. That's not why I started this account, and not where I want it to go.

I have a handful of ideas and a kind of announcement, and I'd love your feedback.

          	1. I'm planning on writing a short book detailing what I've learned from hosting AP in the hope that it will help other contest organizers follow through. That's the announcement. No promises, but the idea seems fun.

          	2. Targeted awards with a large people's choice component. The idea would be open submissions for a single category, like ROMANCE, and the work would be judged on fixed criteria, BUT we would also open up a public survey and encourage entrants to send their fans to fill it out. There would be rules around this to prevent cheating, but it would take a lot of the burden off the host (probably me).

          	3. A R4R book club. Each person who submits their book will be assigned a book that they must complete and comment on in an established timeframe. I'm 100% ok with this starting out small, as in 4-6 people.

          	4. A collaborative workspace. Recruit a handful of people for open brainstorming to see if we can come up with a community-created story, and each contributing author would write a chapter.

I'm open to other ideas. Failing this I'll probably leave this account on standby or pass it off to an interested party who has more time than I do to manage it. I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts :D

@ TheAdeptPen I loved the award (even though I didn't participate lol) and I think they're all good ideas to help writers and inspire readers :)

I love the idea of 1 and 2! I personally wouldn’t have the time to participate in 3 and 4, but they’re great ideas!

Contrary to the evidence at hand, we are all still alive. Summer and holidays wreak havoc with schedules, but we're still in the middle of both Hero and Villain, with an aggressive schedule to follow. Hoping to wrap this up by August - only 4 months after the original goal :/

TheAdeptPen

@Mimi_Lind my goodness don't be, I owe it to everyone to proceed. I didn't want this to go past April, and we're approaching August. I feel terrible. BUT I'm hoping I can make up for some of that in the next day or so... since I couldn't get a committment for regular meetups, we did one big one, so if all goes well I'll have all remaining awards posted in a couple days.

So this past week I took a forced break when we were unable to convene the roundtable for the next two categories. I have to admit I'm really looking forward to them - it's like a book club, but with the stuff you guys have written. We're attempting another meetup on Sunday, so hopefully we'll have the results in for Hero within a day or two.

TheAdeptPen

Hello friends and neighbors! Still here, still plugging away. I took a couple of weeks off out of necessity and had to reset some of my agendas, but we're back this weekend with the Hero category. I promise we won't have a month long gap between each category!!

TheAdeptPen

Good morning! Sorry for the unanounced hiatus, had to take some time off for personal reasons, but we'll be working on the Hero category this week, and attempting to finish categories either weekly or bi-weekly. Stay tuned!
