Feather quills were one of the first forms of writing. After people got tired of carving things into stone or waiting for clay to dry. Parchment was made, the next step to create a tool to write on it. Of course the natural decision was to use feathers. Writing was already a way to create freedom, and what is more free than the object that can give flight?
