I'm a public speaker now, but I used to be near to tears when speaking or being around people. Basically just smile, be present, don't think you're awkward, because no one thinks that!
The biggest is just completing people. It really brings out an easy convo. I've made some of my best friends from a simple "nice shoes, nice hat". Or "omg that's so pretty! I have to know where you got it!"
People love talking, and more than talking they love to tall about themselves!
