          Just so you know, I'm not trying to take over your story or anything I just want a good book to read like yours.

What if Y/N 's mother was really the banished Ursa in disguise and Y/N was really one of Ozai's children but he didn't know that you were alive (he had thought that you weren't a bender when you were born and ordered you to be drowned but Ursa managed to save you and keep you hidden until her banishment) until she told Ozai which was part of the reason she was banished apart from making the poison for Ozai to use on azulon and Ozai wanted you dead.
          The reason your mother died was not just because the soldiers were cruel but because they recognised her as Ursa and called for reinforcements to capture you to hence the Dragon and wo tin
          And what if you thought that you mother was dead but miraculously woke up later and either is still looking for you or thought you had died. 
          
          This should tie pretty well into the story even if you plan for zuko to become good because you  and him can both train the avatar and he can ascend to the throne but if zuko stays bad then Y/N can become Fire lord at the end. (If zuko turns good you can make it that aang nearly kills a village with his firebending either in the avatar state or not and never wants to firebend again until Guru patik changes his mind and after the day of black sun then he decides to resume training with you and zuko shows up wanting to become part of team avatar and everyone says no except you and you vouch for him saying that you watched him doing good things in your vision along the way)
          
          
          My idea is write towards this goal and build on it up to the point where it happens
          P.s you could make it that Y/N is better than zuko at his best but not quite as good as azula at her best and that you beat her occasionally but most of the time she beats you. And during sozins comet, you were the one who beat her at an Agni Kai
