For those who've been wondering why we've been so quiet on Wattpad lately, it's because all our recent efforts have been focused on wrapping up post-production on our debut indie feature film CACTUS JACK, a "political horror" cautionary tale in which a hateful, vitriolic basement dwelling podcaster goes viral, garners an audience of enemies and dangerous sycophants—and faces deadly backlash.

We'll be dropping an intense, diabolical trailer at midnight on Halloween. The film itself is slated to be released on January 22, 2021.

If you're interested in learning more about CACTUS JACK, you can visit www.cactusjackfilm.com, where you can also sign up for our newsletter for future updates.

Once we're done with this massive undertaking, rest assured we'll be back to cranking out more prose, including further chapters of REAPERS as well as a ton of short stories and other projects we've got percolating in our twisted little heads.

Stay tuned for much more to come!

Hey any plans on continuing the stories you have up so far?? Especially The Reaper #3 ?? I havent found another writer quite like you two!!!

ThorntonBrothers

@halisstra Thanks so much for the encouraging words! Yes, we definitely plan to continue with Reapers 3 (many pages have been written but they still need polishing before they're ready to share) and our other works. We've just been mired in other projects and pursuits, to include a podcast called "Hard Out" in which we discuss our love of movies and storytelling with others, many of whom are also creative types (writers, directors, artists, etc.). Here's a sample YouTube link if you'd like to check that out in which we hosted a mini-reunion of the cast and writer of the film Dead Poets Society: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk4zONaa8lY

Hey Readers,

We've been chiseling away on many projects on various fronts (including a TV show we've been hired to write a pilot and bible for and will be pitching in the coming weeks), but at the same time we truly want to keep the fires burning on some of our favorite independent works. We think Wattpad is a great place to do this, and in that spirit have decided to try an experimental approach.

We already have two completed books for our fantasy series REAPERS released here on Wattpad, but are keen to shift the method we use to release further content to better engage with our audience on a regular basis and keep the series alive and fresh. So, for the immediate future, we will be releasing new REAPERS material one chapter at a time. In the meantime, we'll also continue to publish other works on here as well, to include short stories and other ongoing series.

We hope to keep new content coming on a semi-weekly basis (time, life, and workload permitting), and would love for our followers to come along for the ride. Along with this update, we're releasing the first chapter of our third volume of REAPERS ("Wild Gods"), which you can check out here: https://www.wattpad.com/680346195-reapers-book-three-wild-gods-1

Looking forward to what you all think of the new stuff. Plenty more coming soon in its wake!

Hey, Wattpadders! A little thing Jay wrote for Script Magazine on getting stuck in the screenwriting obscurity trenches and trying to find an audience through other mediums—to coincide with the launch of our YouTube channel and first audioplay THE RIVER (which is among our works here—and we just linked the audioplay to the short story)!

We’ve got a *ton* of these gnarly little audioplays in the pipeline, so do us a favor and subscribe if you dig it! This one is a dark, demented, harrowing journey through a desolate post-apocalyptic America in which a man tries to desperately make it home to see his family one last time after being infected by a zombie’s bite.

These audioplays are gonna vary in length and most will likely be shorter, but this one comes in at about 22 minutes. Also, along with the cinematic, layered sound effects and narration by the talented Michael Gull, we scroll text on the screen in tandem... we find this to be an awesome hybrid between reading and listening that helps you stay engaged in a way standalone audioplays and podcasts don’t. Check it out!

Hope you enjoy!! And thanks to Jeanne Veillette Bowerman at Script/WD for helping get the word out and supporting and championing writers in all mediums.

We invite you to check out the first chapter of our new post-apocalytic sci-fi series CONSTRUCTS!

"A damaged mechanized Construct has been left seemingly alone on a ruined world, its Makers dead or gone. Ruled by an aged and deteriorating Code, the machine seeks answers as to how it came to be, what to make of its new plight... and whether it truly is alone."

We will continue to release more chapters for this series, our ongoing fantasy saga REAPERS, and a steady stream of short stories and other material we've been chiseling at over the years. We also have some high-quality audioplay adaptations of our stories in the works, the first of which we're excited to share very soon. Please join us, step into our twisted and rich literary world, and stay a while!

REAPERS - Book Two: The Hunger and the Sickness has now been uploaded to Wattpad in its entirety! It is a completed novel-length collection of Staves 8 through 14, continuing the story from Book One.

The ancient legends say the goddess of Fate, daughter of Old Trickster, was born without a heart in her hollow breast—and never has it seemed more true. Reaper Team 3 has been shattered and reforged, sent far beyond the front lines and into the remote hinterlands in search of their lost comrades and a meaning behind the strange works of the hobgoblin empire. Meanwhile, intrigue unfolds in the capital city of Camshire, where powerful figures battle with words and knives over the destiny of the Reaper program and the geopolitical landscape as a whole. Familiar faces return changed and new ones emerge to be tested as the future of the Nation and humanity itself swing in the scales.

          ---

Here are a few words from an early reader:

"The Reapers have been scattered to the wind by Book One's climactic events at Fort Nothing, and the reverberations of that battle are still rearranging the political and social reality of this unnamed, sun-bleached hellscape of a fantasy world. [...]

With the characters branching off in new directions, we spend most of this book exploring the arcane nooks and crannies of the Reaperverse, and developing the individual journeys of our "heroes". The Thorntons continue to impress with the reach and girth of their world-building, and splitting everyone up helps to disrupt the static team dynamic of Book One. [...]

The Thorntons have a unique ability to pack vivid description into easily digestible prose, often delighting with clever turns of phrase. The characters offer unique insights into the human condition in what seem like casual, tossed off thought processes germane to the unfolding story. I heartily recommend this series and eagerly await future installments!" - Zack Mosley
