“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 4:13, 14, NKJV).

Where’s God when you’re feeling hurt, angry, or sad? Sometimes you may feel God has disappeared and left you to deal with life
alone. One of the ugly things about bad feelings is that they can get in the way of our relationship with God. He is there, like the sun on a cloudy day, but sometimes we can’t see or feel Him.

That’s when you need to hold on to God by faith and trust in His providential leading. Make it a habit to talk to God, even when you don’t feel good. He is there, always ready to listen. He can help you find positive ways to deal with negative situations that leave you hurt and discouraged. Remember God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11-13? His desire for you is to give you a hope-filled future not only in His glorious kingdom but also here on earth. Would you trust your life in His loving care? If you do, you will make the best decision of your life! God always has a great solution to every problem and a way out of every situation. So talk to Him in bad times—and in good times, too.

Stop and think about all the amazing things God has done for you. He created you and molded you into a beautiful and unique person. He gave you life so you could feel the warmth of the sun, breathe in the fresh air, laugh until you cry, roll down grassy hills, and, most of all, experience His love. He died on the cross for you and forgave all your sins so you could stand unashamed in your Father’s presence. He adopted you as His child and made you an heir to His throne while promising you eternal life and giving you a great purpose on this earth that only you can fill.

God has given you more than you could have ever dared to ask for or even dream of. God wants the best for you, and He knows that you’ll be the happiest and most fulfilled person if you let Him be Lord of your life. So why not join David in affirming God’s role in your life? “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (Psalm 16:11, NLT).

“Father, forgive them” is the most heartfelt plea of all time. What about the promise, “You will be with me in paradise”? That’s a promise made to a dying man! When the weight of sin crushed the heart of Christ on the cross He cried, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46, NKJV). These were the words Jesus spoke as He paid the highest cost of setting us free at Calvary. “Well done!” will be one of the most joyous phrases that human ears will ever hear when Jesus welcomes us home to heaven.

These short statements depict the very heart of God for people. You can pack a lot of love in little statements. Yet those little statements are lifeless without the actions behind them. But we can be sure of this: God loved people so much that He wasn’t content to just tell them. He was determined to show them His love. God wants us to do the same thing. We should not only tell others about His love, but show them with our kind actions and words that God cares for each one of them!
