if someone's immediate reaction to "the us needs more gun laws" is "making guns illegal is depriving me of my right to make my own choices!!", what they are really saying is "i know that i would be deemed unfit to own guns in an environment with stricter gun laws so now i am throwing a tantrum because the thought of not being able to shoot random people is upsetting me".
