Do you think that combining mermaids and Harry Potter is a good thing?
          I'm kinda trying to but it is harder than I thought xD

It really depends on someones perspective. One way you can combine them is maybe you could have Harry end up  finding a mermaid that's half a mermaid and half a witch/wizard? And maybe you could have the mermaid go through the obstacles that the golden trio had went through cuz the mermaid knows when something is going to happen? Idk that's all I can  think off the top of my head.
